Game 4 - Brooklyn Atlantics 25 - Gothams 4

Gotham Base Ball Club of New York vs. Atlantic Base Ball Club of Brooklyn

July 11, 2010

Juniper Valley Park, Middle Village, NY

Game 1 - 1864 Rules:

The day started off not so cool and ended not so cool.  One might have said it was too disgustingly hot to play base ball.  Followed up with the observation - Those guys are dumba**es to play in this weather.

Well our response was - yeah so are you!

The Gotham Club, emboldened with a solid win against the Flemington Neshanock, took on the Atlantic Club with high hopes.  As the visitors, the Gotham Club started the game with zero aces.  The Atlantic Club scored 2.  In the top half of the 2nd frame the Gotham Club scored three aces on two two base hits by Bugs and Keystone (Ari); a one base hit by Flash followed by two steals; and a one base hit by Hanky.

For two frames the Gotham Club held the lead, with surprisingly good defense, good hitting and base running.  Unfortunately, or lead off hitter, center fielder and all around nice guy el Presidente made a fine catch in center; threw the ball in to hold the runner; and walked off the field with a  very disgusting gash on his finger...which turned out to be broken.  In the Gotham half of the 4th frame Keystone (Ari) singled and proceeded to steal himself home.  Excellent play!

Unfortunately that accident portended no good for the Gotham Club.  We gave up way too many runs in the 5th and 8th frame and lost the game 18-7.

el Presidente 0-1

Monk 1-4, 2 sb, 1 ace

Wickets 0-4

Flytrap 2-4, 2 sb

Bugs 1-4, 1 2 base hit, 1 sb, 1 ace

Keystone (Ari) 2-4, 1 2 base hit, 3, sb, 2 aces

Stacks 1-3, 2 sb, 1 ace

Flash 2-3, 2 sb, 1 ace

Hanky 1-3, 2 sb

Stockings 2-3, 2 sb, 1 ace

Weed 1-3

Game 2 - 1864 Rules:

Well the Gotham Club faired no better against the Atlantic Club.  Some might say the 25-4 loss was a bit less than no better.  Most of these write ups are based on the score book and we write about the Gotham Club's valiant offense.  So this'll be short.

With the score 25 to 0 in the Gotham Club's half of the 9th frame, the Gotham Club scored 4 aces.  Flash hit a one base hit and was thrown out on Hanky's one base hit.  Hanky stole 2nd base and tallied an ace on Stacks' one base hit.  Keystone (Ari) hit a one base hit.  And for a Gotham first this season, Monk hit a four base hit scoring Stacks, Keystone and himself.  Flytrap flied out and that was the end of the game, Atlantic Club 25 Gotham Club 4.

Keystone (Ari) 2-4, 1 ace

Monk 2-4, 1 4 base hit, 1 sb, 1 ace

Flytrap 0-3

Weed 0-3

Bugs 0-3

Stockings 1-3, 1 sb

Wickets 1-3, 1 sb

Flash 1-3

Hanky 1-3, 1 sb, 1 ace

Stacks 1-3, 1 ace

The Gotham Club had two offensive players of the games.  In the first, Keystone struck hard and ran hard including that awesome steal of home plate.  In the second obviously Monk gets the award with a nice 4 base hit.
