Gotham Base Ball Club of New York vs. Flemington Neshanock
Howell Living Farm, Lambertsville, New Jersey
June 26, 2010
The vaunted 1-13 Gotham BBC sallied forth to Whereeversville, NJ to play the much hated
Flemington Neshanock in a game of the Base Ball. We left on Monday by horse and buggy and
arrived 6 days later in Lambertsville, NJ at the beautiful Howell Living Farm. The weather was
hot yet dry and the Gotham 9 were prepared to win.
After a delayed start the Gotham Club took to the field and demonstrated some surprisingly
crisp defense. The home team heroes held the Neshanock to 0 runs. Leading off the bottom of
the first, Wickets hit a screaming single stole 2nd and 3rd. He eventually scored on Collector's
base on balls. Collector stole two bases and scored on Monk's (aka Brewski) two base hit. The
inning ended with the score Gotham 2 Neshanock 0.
In the top of the second, the Neshanock followed up with 3 aces. In the Gotham half of the
inning Muffin hit a two base hit, stole two bases and scored an ace on an out. The Neshanock
followed up with three aces of their own. In the bottom of the third Flytrap marveled us all with
his fleet footedness by stealing the first two of his six stolen bases. Though one has to wonder
how he did that with a sprained ankle. The Gotham club scored two in that half of the inning.
The two teams continued their ace tallying, keeping the score close throughout the match. In the
6th inning, with the Neshanock up 11 to 8, the Gotham club stormed back with 5 aces. Wickets
hit a single, promptly stole 2 bases and scored an ace with Flytrap's single. Flytrap stole two
bases and scored on Crash's one base hit. Collector walloped Crash home with a three base hit.
Collector was hit home by Monk's two base hit. Monk would eventually score on hands.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Wickets displayed his remarkable knowledge of the game (and
mimicry of Stacks) by running full bore to home on a beautiful foul ball. Sadly he was out.
In the top of the 8th, the Neshanock tallied 3 aces to tie the game. However in the bottom of the
8th the Gotham scored 1 ace and then held the Neshanock scoreless in the 9th to win the game.
Flytrap pitched an excellent game; sticky fingers Crash held up the defense; Monk was an
offensive juggernaut and we all played hard to win the game.
