Game 2 - Talbot Fairplay 22 - Gothams 3

Gotham Base Ball Club of New York vs Talbot Fairplay

May 20, 2012

Old Bethpage Restoration Village

A last minute request from the Talbot Fairplay, found the Gotham BBC

playing a home game at the beautiful grounds of Old Bethpage

Restoration Village.  Thank you to the fine gentlemen of the Village

for making the arrangements and providing us with an umpire and

players.

Game 1

Rules 1864

The well-rested Gotham BBC team started the match at the line.  Monk

struck the ball to get to 1st base, stole two more and came home on

Wickets' 1 base hit.  Wickets made it to 3rd base but was left waiting

on his teammates to get him an ace.  The Fairplay scored 2 in their

half of the 1st frame.  In the top half of the 2nd frame, Stacks

struck himself on base and stole 2nd, but was left there.  The

Fairplay scored 1 ace in the bottom half of the 2nd frame.  In the 3rd

frame, Dutch got a one base hit, scared his teammates as he stole 2nd

base and made it to 3rd base on Wickets' 1 base hit.  Wickets stole

2nd base.  With 1 hand down and Scratch and Flytrap coming up, the

Gotham BBC and their fans were expecting a big inning.  Scratch hit a

massive shot to the left fielder, and Flytrap bounced to the 3rd base

tender.  In the bottom half of the frame the mighty Crash dislocated

his pinky attempting to catch a Fairplay ball.  He pulled the pinky

back into place.  That was kind of gross.  The Fairplay scored 2 that

frame.  At the end of the 3rd frame, the score was Gotham BBC 1

Fairplay 5.

In the top half of the 4th frame, the "injured" Crash hit a 1 base hit

and stole his way to 3rd base.  He came home on Dirt's 1 base hit.

Dirt stole himself to 3rd base and came home on Stacks' 1 base hit.

Stacks killed the rally by not sliding into 2nd base on a steal

attempt and getting tagged out on the elbow!  In the bottom of the 4th

frame, Crash came back to play left field but didn't stop the Talbot

Fairplay from scoring 1 ace.  In the 5th frame neither team scored.

In the top half of the 6th frame, Flytrap scored an ace.  In the

bottom half of the 6th frame, the Gotham defense limited the Fairplay

to 2 aces.  With the bases loaded, a Fairplay struck the ball to

Stacks.  He gobbled it up, swung his arm around and caught the

Fairplay off the base.  Scratch ended the frame when he made a

beautiful diving catch off the 1st base line.  By the end of the 6th

frame the score was Gotham BBC 4 Fairplay 8.

In the Top of the 7th frame, Stacks scored an ace.  In the bottom of

the 7th, the Fairplay scored 3.  In the top of the 8th frame, Scratch,

Flytrap and Crash scored aces and the team was excited.  Muffin-Frank

got on base, stole 2nd, went to 3rd on Stacks' 1 base hit.  Stacks

stole 2nd base.  Both were left there waiting.  In the bottom of the

8th frame, the Fairplay scored 2.  In the top of the 9th frame, Monk

hit a towering 3 base hit to the 2nd base tender.  Scratch hit a 1

base hit and stole second.  He made it to 3rd base as Flytrap hustled

out a 1 base hit.  Flytrap then proceeded to get picked off at 1st

base.  No more Gotham BBC aces.  The final score was Gotham BBC 9

Talbot Fairplay 13

2nd game

1864 rules

After a brief intermission and a very good, but short speech from

Crash about our team, we started the 2nd game in the field.  The

speech kept us going for 2 innings, but then we faltered.  In the 1st

frame, each team scored an ace.  In the top half of the 2nd frame, the

Fairplay scored an ace.  From the 2nd frame to 8th frame the Gotham

BBC scored 0 aces.  In the top of the 3rd frame, the Fairplay scored

5.  By the end of the 3rd frame the score was Gotham BBC 0 Fairplay 7.

The Fairplay scored a few times more.  Things didn't get interesting

for the Gotham BBC until the 6th frame.  Wickets hit a nice 1 base

hit, stole 2nd base and got to 3rd on Flytrap's 1 base hit.  Flytrap

stole 2nd base.  And folks, everyone remember that Wickets is on 3rd?

No, not everyone.  Flytrap ran right into him.  Wickets gets tagged

out.  That was a rally killer in the extreme.

The Gotham BBC scored 2 in the 8th frame.  The Fairplay scored 12 in

the 9th.  The final score was Gotham BBC 3 Fairplay 22.
