Semifinal vs. Talbot Fair Plays - Semifinals - 1864 Rules:
Day 2 of the Gotham Cup began with the Gothams facing the Talbot Fair Plays yet again. The Gothams have had much difficulty with this fine club from the South in the last 2 years and this day would prove no different. The Gothams were the first to tally on this day when Scratch singled and swiped 2nd base prior to Trolley driving him home with a one-base hit of his own. The Talbot club methodically beat down the Gothams from the start. They tallied twice in the 1st, and once in each of the 2nd and 3rd frames while the Gothams failed to tally an ace in those same innings and fell behind 4-1.
Scratch again started a Gotham attack in the 4th with a big 2-base hit, a theft of 3rd and an ace on Shoeless' one-base hit. Shoeless also pilfered a base and tallied an ace on Trolley's hit to bring the Gothams within 1, but that was as close as the game would get. Talbot tallied thrice in the 6th and 7th frames and for more times in the 8th, whilst the Gothams could only muster a single ace by Slider in the 6th, Ringer in the 7th and Collector in the 8th to wind up on the short end of a 14-6 tally.
Overall, the Talbot club executed 2 fine matches against the Gothams in this tournament and deservedly found their place in the Championship game of this 3rd annual Gotham Cup against the Waterbury Connors. It should be duly noted that Wombat willingly left his team to play for the Talbot Club and performed quite well compiling 4 hits against his own Gothams and playing first base rather flawlessly as well. The Gothams graciously wished the Fair Plays the best of luck. Until next time…Huzzah!!!
